Dresden is a medium sized city in the Free State of Saxony. You can get to Dresden by plane, train, coach or car.

Please let us know as soon as possible when exactly you will arrive in Dresden, so that we can arrange your accommodation and organize someone of our IAESTE staff to pick you up. This person will take you to your accommodation and answer your questions.

Please remember to bring a valid passport and a valid visa (for non-EU-citizens)!!!

Arrival

Arrival by airplane

The Dresden Airport is located about 10 km in the nothwest of the Dresden City. From the Berlin Airport Schönefeld you can reach Dresden also by coach with Flixbus.

Arrival by train

Because of Dresden's connection to the high-speed rail network, it is in some cases possible to travel to Dresden by train. You can look for suitable connections at the pages of the European Railways or the Deutsche Bahn.

Arrival by car

Dresden is connected to the German highway network. Europe-wide route suggestions are available here. We do not recommend travelling by car as there are relatively few parking lots in Dresden. Besides a car is not necessary in everyday life in Dresden because everything can be reached by foot.

Accommodation

If you inform us in time about your arrival, we will arrange accommodation for you. We search for low-cost, furnished rooms and rent them for the period of your internship. The rooms are equipped at least with a bed, a cupboard/shelf, a table and a chair. In addition there will be an access to a kitchen and to a shower/WC. In most rooms there will be an Internet connection, but we cannot always guarantee for that.

Your rent will be around 280 € per month (starting september 2016 it can be up to 360 €). The rent will be taken directly from your internship salary, so that you do not need to worry about the lodging issues. In addition, we will collect a deposit of 100 € from you at your arrival. You will get it back at the end of your stay, if you leave your room without having damaged anything.

Bed linen and towels must be brought along!

The first days in Dresden

During the first days a mentor will help you with all your questions and show you the city center of Dresden. You will find out where you can buy all the everyday stuff and what you can do in Dresden in the evenings. Additionally we assist you in getting a German SIM card (prepaid) for your mobile phone so that you can call us and the other trainees at low costs. Your mentor will also bring you to your working place on your first working day. Soon you will also get to know the other members of the Local Committee and the other trainees.
